LAPSE: Confessions of a Slot Machine Junkie is a personal documentary about my experience overcoming a twelve-year long gambling addiction. When I decided to quit, I entered into psychotherapy. I audio recorded my sessions, and all of the dialogue in LAPSE is taken from those recordings. It's going to premiere at the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival. But while gambling addiction is the subject, the aesthetic isn't that of your typical recovery film. I'm also a time-lapse addict, and I incorporated more than 30 time-lapses into this 13 minute film. I think that time-lapses are perfect for evoking anxiety and surrealism. So LAPSE refers to both the cinematic technique of the film as well as the subject matter (i.e., a lapse in judgement).
